Ghost in the Shell

I keep calling this film Ghost in A Shell rather than in the Shell. The trailer leads you to think it’s a very good film but is it?

We saw this on 5th April it’s based on a Japanese Manga of the same name, starring Scarlett Johansson, Takeshi Kitano, Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbæk, Chin Han and Juliette Binoche. It’s set in the near future where the line between Robots (Androids) and Humans in getting less clear and the vast majority of Humans have been enhanced with cybernetics but Hanka Robotics is trying to take it one step further and establishes a secret project that has developed a mechanical body (Shell) that can be integrated with a Human brain. Mira Killan (Scarlett) a young women is a sole survior in a Cyberterrorist attack that kills her parents and destroyed most of her body is chosen to be the test subject and after successful implantation the Hanka CEO Cutter decides to use Killan as a Counter-terrorism operative.

A year later Killan has risen to the rank of Major and works alongside Batou (Pilou), Torgusa (Chin) and their boss Daisuke Aramaki (Takeshi) and they successfully thwarts a terrorist attack on a Hanka Business Conference. Killan has started having flashbacks due to her Human mind that causes her to break orders and investigate things herself. During the search for her true self she has to battle against an unknown subject that it seems was a test subject before her and she also finds she was not Mira Killan. The movie then pans to have 2 storyline intertwined with the story of Mira flashbacks and search for her story and the story regarding Hanka Robotics and Cutter.

Most people I’ve spoken to about this movie have been disappointed and I can see where they’re coming from as it offers so much but fails to live up to it, however I did think it was still a good Movie even if it could’ve been better.

I will watch this again when it comes out on Home Media so by default the minimum I can rate this is 7 and that’s what I will give it. 7/10
