Review: –

I got recommend this film as not seen a trailer of this before I actually went to see however I have a mixed review of the film.

A college student is murdered on her birthday and is forced to relive the day until she works out who kills her and to stop her death which is where I start having mixed feelings as sounded like Before I Fall a film I reviewed earlier that was on Netflix.

Tree wakes up on Monday 18th September in the Dorm Room of Carter after getting drunk the night before and going back with him, after returning back to her Sorority house where her roommate gives her a cupcake with a candle on which she blows the candle out and throws the cake away, in the evening on her way to her surprise party she’s lured through a tunnel where she’s murdered, she then wakes up on Monday 18th in Carter’s bed again, this starts a succession of loops which sees Tree killed in different ways but her friendship with Carter improves even though Carter can’t remember the days that Tree has lived & been murdered in. In one loop Tree thinks she has solved the mystery and goes to kill them but as Carter has been killed she realizes that if she does kill them then Carter is dead forever so hangs herself to re-loop the day, the next time she kills them and thinking that is it has the cupcake with Carter in Carter’s room but still wakes up on the 18th which is when she then realizes who actually kills her and manages to kill them, Tree then meets up with Carter and talk about the events and her re-living of the day and comments about it being like Groundhog Day, the following morning Carter tricks Tree thinking it’s the 18th again but is really the 19th and they kiss.

If I had not seen Before I fall I think I would’ve rated this much better as it was just too similar in the story with it re-looping until she finds her killer, I know Groundhog day is the same type with re-living the same day but there is more similarity to Before I Fall, the attacks of Tree by a person in a mask is also too similar to Scream which is a shame as the film itself is really good and Jessica & Israel are brilliant in it. If you haven’t see Before I Fall then this is most likely a very good watch but to me this is only a decent watch however this is better than Before I Fall has more of a back story to it.

Rating: –  This is awkward as the film itself is good and probably deserves a 7 or 8 or even a 9 but because of the similarity I can give it this high so it will just have to be a 7.
